The vibe

Sylvia Roth has fought hard to become an exceptional Broadway pit musician… and she’s pretty sure she’s also a bad luck charm, because every show she joins closes way too fast. So when she lands the coveted drum chair at Heartless, one of Broadway’s longest-running musicals, she grabs it—only to discover the music director is Max Edelman.
Max is her (upsettingly hot) nemesis for one unforgettable reason: he fired her mid-show a decade ago. Syl wants to hold onto her grudge, but she wants a steady job more. And since they’re the two newest members of a disgruntled orchestra that’s been stuck together for nearly thirty years, Syl and Max are forced into an uneasy truce.
The problem is, the more Syl works with him, the more she starts to suspect Max isn’t the villain she’s made him out to be—and the sparks between them aren’t just musical. But as one of the few female drummers in a male-dominated industry, Syl knows exactly how quickly rumors can become consequences.
And then there’s the complication she didn’t see coming: Syl’s oldest friend—her anonymous online pen pal, the person she’s confided in since middle school—seems determined to finally take things to the next level. Syl has always been fearless about her career. But when it comes to her heart, can she be brave enough to choose?
