Cozy ghostly LGBTQIA+ romance • New Orleans • opposites attract • transmasc lead • gentle, magical vibes
A warm, comforting queer romance with just enough spooky to make the cozy hit harder. The Most Unusual Haunting of Edgar Lovejoy pairs a haunted-house designer who doesn’t believe in ghosts with a man who’s been genuinely haunted his entire life—then lets them fall into something tender, funny, and healing in the heart of New Orleans’ spooky scene.
The vibe
Jamie Wendon-Dale (transmasc, they/them) designs haunted houses for a living. Haunting is their whole world—except it’s all smoke, mirrors, and good business. Nobody on the New Orleans spooky circuit actually believes in ghosts… until Jamie meets Edgar Lovejoy.
Edgar (cis, he/him) is 100% haunted. Ghosts have tormented him since childhood, and he’s built his entire life around avoiding them. Jamie’s biggest worry is that Edgar seems distracted sometimes. Edgar’s is bigger: he’s terrified of encountering the dead every time he leaves the house—and even more terrified of letting himself be vulnerable with Jamie. Because how do you explain to someone who thinks ghosts are just props that you see them everywhere? And how do you trust a happy future when you can’t even trust your own reality?
Spooky, gentle, and deeply cozy, this is a love story about being believed, being safe, and finding a bookish little family when you least expect it.
